When NGOs in India just began understanding the value of new media that was unleashed by the Internet, they hired high tech code writers often HTML and asp or dot net programmers and got their websites up and running.
Since the late 90's things have changed dramatically. But what is interesting is that while many online tools for effective communications have emerged, several organisations struggle to get support for continuing their work to enhance their online presence.
The strategic use of Internet for promoting the work and also to gain further outreach is central to any online planning by NGOs. The second strategic use will be to engage with the stakeholders and make more effective use of the new generation web 2.0 technologies for making it cost effective too.
Looking forward to getting ideas of how to port knowledge already gathered in html or asp pages to web 2.0 portal.
